Mermaid Braid

Hello everybody,

Today I experimented with a new way to wear my hair "down" but not at its full length.  I ended up making a simple English braid, adding small strands of hair every few sections to create the mermaid-braid effect.  When I went down as far as I could reach behind my head, I finished my English braid off and braided the length of my hair into a bigger English braid.  I wrapped this bigger braid up and under, and held it in place with hair clips.  Surprisingly this hairstyle lasted all day long, and when I took it down it was hardly tangled at all!  I think braiding my hair before I folded it up and tucked it underneath is what kept the tangles at bay.
Merry Christmas and sunny wishes for a beautiful day :-)

  1. Seeing this hairstyle was a shock at first! It looked like you cut it!! Phew!!

Very pretty and it gives me more ideas of ways to style my shorter hair with accent braids. :-) I do like how the hairstyles you create are interesting from multiple angles not just pretty in the back. Now if I can only figure out how to bend my arms to reach... Lol.

    Christmas blessings to you!

    1. Thank you so much! Yes, I definitely did not cut my hair :) I'm so glad I can adapt this hairstyle to my own hair, mermaid braids can be so very pretty! Like you said, it's hard to reach so far behind one's own head haha
      Merry Christmas my friend!

  3. Hello,

Thanks for all these beautiful photos and ideas for long hair ! !
I just have a question however ; how long was you hair exactly when you did these pictures of mermaid braid ?
Because I'm looking for ways to let my hair "long" but at the same time to make it seem shorter... I don't know if you understand what I mean, I'm sorry my english is not perfect...
My hait is at my knees and I'm looking for a hairstyle where it would look like it's in the middle of my back.
And it looks like this mermaid hairstyle corresponds with what I'm looking for... Could you explain me (or show me with photos) how you "shortened" your hair in this hairstyle ?
    Thanks you in advance ! ! ! ! :-)

    1. Hi Nathalie, thank you so much for commenting. I'm very glad to hear that you are enjoying my blog and pictures! My hair was still at ankle-length when I did this hairstyle. I made the mermaid braid first, adding hair until I could not reach to add any more. Then I braided the length of my hair in a loose braid. I wrapped that braid up as if I were going to make a bun. But instead I clipped it underneath the rest of my hair, giving the illusion of having hair much shorter than my hair really is. I hope this makes sense, maybe I can try to do a video on this look :) I do have a video about my Ginger Rogers hairstyle, which is another great way to wear your long hair down, but not at its full length. Thank you again! I'm glad we have been able to get connected :)
